At My Local Dentists Seven Hills, our dentists are providers of the Medicare CDBS, providing dental services for qualified children aged 0 to 17.

Your child may receive FREE dental treatment of up to $1095 of preventative and general dental services. This is bulk billed, meaning you will have out-of-pocket expenses.

This covered include:

Dental services not included:

orthodontic dental work
cosmetic dental work
any services you have in a hospital

Essential dental services have some restrictions. Before starting your service, you should check with the Department of Human Services, Medicare, or your dentist to see if there are any item or time restrictions.

How can I tell that my child is eligible?

Medicare will send you a letter regarding the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.
You can check details about your child and be assured that they meet the qualifying criteria through the Medicare online account available at my.gov.au or by phone at Medicare General Inquiries on 132 011.

How Does The Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule Work?

Thresholds

Up to $1,095 may be claimed for each child over 2 consecutive calendar years.

The 2-year period starts from the calendar year when your child gets their first eligible dental service. If you don’t use the $1,095 in the first year, you can use it in the second year. But only if your child remains eligible.

After two years, you won’t be able to use any more benefits, even if you have yet to use the full $1,095.

If you remain eligible, you can start a new two-calendar-year period. This means you’ll get another $1,095 in benefits to claim over the next two years.

Example

Mary and Tim have a daughter named Rachel. Rachel became eligible for CDBS in 2022 and continued to qualify in 2023. Rachel received dental services in both calendar years and had a balance of $160 on 31 December 2023. She won’t be able to access this balance in 2024 because the 2 year period is over.

In January 2024, Rachel met the eligibility criteria for CDBS again, which means she started a new two-year period. Her balance is now $1,095 for the 2024 and 2025 calendar years. Rachel will need to meet the eligibility criteria again in 2025 to continue using services under CDBS.

Will I have to cover any out-of-pocket costs?

If your balance is sufficient to cover the fees for the day’s visit, you will not have to pay any out-of-pocket charges. Medicare will bulk-bill your claim; therefore, no patient co-payment is required.
